“April Fools’!” reads a meme showing the face of the GOP’s front runner, Donald Trump. Liberals galore opine “Wouldn’t it be nice if he came out today, suspended his campaign, and conceded that it was all a joke?” I admit, part of that resonated with me, in the humor of it and my personal feelings on Mr. Trump’s candidacy. Our current POTUS was an Illinois junior Senator who had a piss poor attendance record, implicitly advocated infanticide, and ran as a leftist demagogue. I would take some space in the article to catalogue his lies and errors in office, but I’m afraid I don’t have that much time, or hard drive space. The media, the unofficial fourth branch of government failed explicitly in objectively examining Mr. Obama’s past, the people who shaped his political ideals, his religion, and the people who he surrounded himself with as he rose to power from the slimy, bottom feeding streets of Chicago politics.
This election cycle has shown a stark contrast between the will of the duopoly’s establishment leadership and the voting base of the party. Debbie Wasserman-Shultz has done everything she could possibly have done early on to sabotage Sen. Sanders campaign, even provoking legal action to have access to voter records from their own party.
I’ll sum up my observation this way; If you want to let the primaries progress naturally, and stay in touch, as well as connected to the base…then why make it difficult to for any candidate to access their party’s voting records? Answer: The party chose their nominee months ago, and this is all a dog and pony show to give people the illusion of choice. The President recently told DNC donors (the deepest pockets) in a private meeting to put their funding behind Hillary, who in reality would be a continuation of Obama’s presidency, getting things done that he just couldn’t get to because being on the back 9 seemed like a better idea. To anyone that supports Sen. Sanders whole-heartedly…I would encourage you to examine the tax systems of those European countries you so much want to be like and see if it seems like such a good idea after the fact. Bernie is unelectable in my eyes because his sense of economics is “down the rabbit hole,” & unfortunately…whether America wants to admit it or not, I don’t know that she’s ready for a Hebrew in the White House. I think Joe Lieberman was much more presidential and honest in terms of knowing how the system works and how to get business done. Not that I was a fan of many of his policies either. He was very much a Nanny Statist, despite being a standup guy by many accounts.
Trump’s momentum in some ways very peculiar to me, he has done so well here in the south (east of the muddy Mississippi). He’s culturally such a Yankee blowhard wheeler and dealer. The large reason for his appeal is obviously that he is for one: Not a career politician, and two: Not an establishment guy. Hence, his curse. The party didn’t make him, cannot really predict him, and don’t have any real means to control him personally. His “Achilles Heel” to the GOP has been his resounding strength with the GOP base. I would have a very difficult time believing in any party who throws John McCain, or Mitt Romney as the “best candidates” to run against Barack Obama…oh wait! The Republicans did that. While the GOP has had much better turnout in the primaries, it must be also noted how many people aren’t even bothering to show up. What’s even more mind-blowing to me is how most of the Evangelicals have run behind Trump for presidency.
Which brings another observation to the mix, why would such a large percentage of Evangelicals cast their ballot behind a man who has had multiple wives, has done business with pornographers, and has remarked in an interview that he’s “never asked God for forgiveness?” Militant atheist liberals will tell you that the GOP is in bed w/ the “church.” I will examine that perhaps in my next contribution. However, if you ask evangelicals and use one of the 5 senses (that not everyone is born with unfortunately), and hear them out…they will confide that they feel like they’ve been abandoned and neglected by the GOP, and will state cases where religious expression (that is within the judicially understood interpretation of the 1st Amendment) is beginning to be stifled & met with oppression. To top it all off, there have been couples in the LGBT community that have used government as a method of coercion to force the “services” of a private small business owner who tries in his own way to live a religious life, or to force a church to perform a ceremony to officiate their nuptials.
But what’s all the fuss about? What does any of this have to do w/ a horrifying future of the American Presidency? The first question I have to establish this case is: Can anyone give me an example of when the Executive Branch has ever given up power it’s been given? Or Congress? Don’t worry…I’ll wait.
Did any of you ever think you’d live in a time where the President of the most powerful nation in the free world would order a drone strike on a hospital to kill a couple of terrorists (in a country where we are not in a lawfully declared war against), and there are have been plenty of innocent children massacred, and nobody bats an eyelash. Not the media, not the liberals who “champion” the cause fighting Capital Punishment (let’s not open that nest of worms, now), and claim to be anti-war. Where is the faith and confidence in our own rule of law?
If we have evidence that someone is a terrorist, then let’s put a bounty on their head, bring them to a proper court, trying them as such. Did any of you think you’d live in a time where the federal gov’t would use automatic weapons and swat teams to put a stop to the selling of raw milk?
Liberals, just because people may disagree with you one issue doesn’t necessarily discount the validity of everything they have to say. You can’t bash George W. Bush for his policies and give his successor a pass for putting a good portion of those policies on steroids. I don’t believe the political landscape is solely relegated to the left/right paradigm, there are also the pro-state and anti-state perspective. Just look at the blind consent and trust that has been handed to the government like some club rat looking to suck & screw away her daddy issues.
The case in point for this article is the expansion of Government Power since 9/11 (particularly Executive Power). I would like to cite an interview where famous (or infamous) Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly (Statist), a very politically savvy guy (love him, or hate him), was on his show; On this particular episode, he was using his influence to advocate the passage of the Patriot Act. Opposing him was Judge Andrew Napolitano, whom I would call the “Bulldog” of the Liberty movement. Apart from making the point in opposing such legislation by warning that the government has never given back power that it’s taken. During the discussion, O’Reilly began to sidestep as he unabashedly defended the breech of the 4th Amendment (amongst many other criminal infringements of the “Patriot” Act), by saying ‘Hey Bush isn’t a bad guy, he’s not going to lock people up and throw away the key, he’s not going to abuse his power with this law.’
The Judge’s response was prophetic and reveals an ignorance of pandemic proportions of people who advocate the two party system or are hard line partisan voters.
“What do you think will happen when someone else comes into office, inherits that power, and doesn’t like you?!”
You don’t have to take my word for it on the expansion of Executive powers, look it up. President Obama went on record saying he wouldn’t renew the Patriot Act. He lied (I hope you were sitting down for that). I’d also encourage you to briefly survey history and study how consistently power corrupts individuals.
The GOP has a golden opportunity in this election cycle to revive itself and to reform government and the way business is done in Washington. You have so many independents out there who are pissed off, and rightly so. To me, this election cycle is showing a referendum of the duopoly. As people of all political leanings will tell you, the GOP and DNC are out of touch with their respective base(s).
If they can’t prove that inference wrong, there’s their undoing.
